A simple black and white WordPress blog will cost $8.25 per month for remote WordPress hosting.

I could install WordPress for free on your webserver but it's not really free because then there is more work on a daily/weekly/montly basis to administer it--install security updates, delete spam etc.

Actually administering a locally installed WordPress is difficult if and only if you allow readers to make comments at the end of each Matt/Joel blog post.
If readers cannot make comments you get less interactivity with customers but far less work on your part. If you do allow comments you will get lots of ads from Indonesian Flower sellers and Russian xxxx porno bots.

WordPress is NOT the only option. I'll have to do some blog research.
